Action Research

What can I do to support a Supportive Learning Environment?

I am attempting to conduct my action research with the Grade Five Class at my school. First, conducted the classroom climate survey that Michelle found (link below).

In addition, I added a couple of questions:

March 23rd - Quality Curriculum

In my role as the Student Services Teacher, I tend to look at and focus on students' needs and to a much lesser extent the curriculum. However, through reading and learning more about DI, I have been challenged to give greater consideration to quality curriculum and offer that to the students that I work with too. All students should have the opportunity to have rich and deep learning experiences. How they enter into the learning and proceed with it can be varied. Offering constant remediation can't be very inviting to the struggling learner. So, somehow, I need to get me mind around just focusing on the catch-up mentality. The more I learn about DI, the more I realize that I have to change my practice...

April 13 - DI...What I Believe

I believe that differentiated instruction can meet the needs of all students. It allows students who have traditionally been removed from the regualr classroom, due to lack of skills, to have a place in regular education that is rich and deep - not just focussed on remediation.
